Shelfari: MySpace for Books?

Call me jaded, but books and MySpace don’t quite go together for me as much as music and TV. New startup Shelfari is hoping you’ll MySpace it up by sharing your shelf of favorite books and leaving notes for pals on readings you have enjoyed.
We Say: Great concept (despite the mandatory MySpace meets…. premise) but Amazon does book recommendations the best, and MySpace seemingly does the rest. The graphics are much clearner than both services though. Who says you can’t judge a shelf by its cover?

Alice,
Thank you for taking the time to review Shelfari today. Full disclosure: I am one of the co-founder of the site.
Despite some of the press we got today we don’t think of Shelfari as a “Social Networking Site”, since the primary purpose of a social networking site is connect users with other users. We are a “social media site” which means we focus on connecting people to media (books in our case).
