On August 3rd 2006, Suzanne Vega became the first recording artist to perform live in avatar form in the immensely popular virtual world, Second Life.
Here, she explains how her original acapella version of "Tom's Diner" was used to model the compression algorithms of the MP3 format, thus making her the "Mother of the MP3", then proceeds to sing the song.
