BeNetSafe became the latest company to get its feet wet in Internet safety on Monday, launching a web-based service that lets parents track what their kids are doing and saying on the social network MySpace.

The company’s Internet-based service uses search technology and keywords, like “drugs,” “sex,” and “alcohol” to audit MySpace profiles for information, such as whether a profile is public or private, contains photos, or reveals sensitive personal information. BeNetSafe then compiles the information into a report that parents can access online or receive weekly or monthly via email.

It flags things that parents should see,” said co-founder Michael Edelson.
