Few if any social networking Web sites, and none of the big ones, have yet claimed to make money. But one has come close.
Konstantin Guericke says the site he co-founded, LinkedIn, broke even last quarter.
Whereas MySpace and most of the other social net sites depend on ad revenue, LinkedIn is going the subscription route.
By focusing strictly on business -- as opposed to friends, music, videos, photos or hobbies -- and working to assure the "quality" of its network, LinkedIn is selling more and more subscriptions to individuals and businesses, Guericke says.
